The Three Google Tools Every Local Business Needs to Own Their Online Presence

by | May 18, 2026 | Google Tools, Local Marketing, Small Businesses

If you run a local business, you’ve probably heard someone mention Google Business Profile, Google Search Console, or Google Analytics at some point. Maybe all three. And maybe you nodded along while quietly wondering what any of them actually do or whether you really need them.

You do. All three. And here’s why.

These aren’t fancy extras for big companies with marketing departments. They’re the foundation of your local online presence. Without them, you’re essentially running a business that’s not easy to find in local search.

Let’s break down what each one does, why it matters, and how they work together.

Google Business Profile: Your Front Door on the Internet

When someone searches for your business by name or searches for the services you offer, your Google Business Profile (GBP) is often the first thing they see. It shows up in Google Search and on Google Maps. It displays your hours, phone number, address, photos, reviews, and other relevant information.

Here’s the part most business owners don’t realize: Google creates a listing for your business whether you claim it or not. If you haven’t set it up, the information showing up could be wrong.

A properly claimed and optimized GBP does several things for you:

  • Shows up in local map results when people in Cherokee or Rutherford County search locally
  • Displays your hours and contact info so people can reach you right away
  • Collects and displays reviews that are one of the most significant trust signals for potential customers
  • Lets you post updates, promotions, and photos directly in search results
  • Tells Google you’re a real, active local business that deserves to show up in search

If you’ve never claimed your GBP, that’s the single highest-impact thing you can do for your local visibility today. It’s free, and it takes about 20 minutes to set up properly.

Google Search Console: What Google Sees When It Looks at Your Site

Google Search Console is a free tool that shows you how Google sees your website. Most business owners have never heard of it. The ones who have usually haven’t set it up.

That’s a problem, because Search Console tells you things you can’t find out any other way:

  • Which search terms are bringing people to your site — not guesses, actual data
  • Which pages Google has indexed — and which ones it’s ignoring
  • Whether Google can crawl your site properly — or whether there are errors blocking it
  • How often your site appears in search results — and how often people actually click
  • Security issues or manual penalties — things that could be quietly tanking your rankings

One of the most common things I find when I look at a local business website is a “noindex” tag, code that tells Google not to show the page in search results. The business owner has no idea it’s there. Search Console catches it immediately.

Without Search Console connected, you’re flying blind. You don’t know if Google is finding you, what’s working, or what’s broken.

Google Analytics: Understanding What Happens After People Find You

If Search Console tells you how people find you, Google Analytics tells you what they do once they get there.

Analytics tracks visitor behavior on your website:

  • How many people visit and where the search was made, like Google or Facebook
  • Which pages they spend time on, and which ones leads them to continue searching
  • What device they’re using, such as mobile, desktop, or tablet
  • Whether people are taking action like completing forms or clicking on your phone number

If 224 people visited your site last month but nobody called, Analytics can help you figure out why. When used correctly, Analytics provides critical information that can help you get more calls and book more services.

Why All Three Work Together

Each tool answers a different question:

  • Google Business ProfileCan people find me when they search locally?
  • Search ConsoleCan Google see and understand my website?
  • AnalyticsWhat are visitors doing when they get here?

None of them does the full job alone. A great GBP drives people to your website, but if your pages aren’t indexed, it’s nearly impossible to build organic traffic. Analytics might show people are visiting, but without Search Console, you don’t know which search terms brought them. All three together give you a clear, complete picture of your local online presence. The only investment is setting the tools up correctly and checking them regularly because Google provides all three tools at no cost.
