How to Make It Easy for Customers to Leave You a Google Review

Most customers who want to leave you a review never do. Not because they don’t mean to, but because when they sit down to do it, they don’t know how.

They search for your business. They click around. They can’t find the right place. They give up.

That’s a review you lost. You lost the review not because the customer didn’t want to recommend your business, but because you made it too hard.

The Fix Is Simple

Give customers a direct link to your Google review page. One tap and they’re there. No searching, no clicking around, no giving up.

Here’s how to find yours:

  1. Search for your business on Google
  2. Find your Google Business Profile in the results
  3. Click Get more reviews — Google gives you a direct link you can copy and share

That link goes directly to the review form. Easy and simple.

What to Do With the Link

Once you have your Google review link, put it everywhere:

In an email — after a job is done or a service is complete, send a short follow-up. One or two sentences, the link, done.

On a business card or receipt — print the link or a QR code that opens it. Hand it to customers at the point of sale.

In your email signature — every email you send is an opportunity. Add a line at the bottom: “Happy with our service? Leave us a Google review.”

On your website — a simple button or link on your contact page or footer.

As a QR code — generate a QR code from your review link. Print it on a small card, tape it to your counter, or include it in any printed material you hand out.

How to Ask Without Making It Awkward

Most business owners don’t ask for reviews because it feels uncomfortable. It doesn’t have to be.

You’re not asking for a favor. You’re giving a satisfied customer an easy way to do something they already wanted to do.

The simplest ask: “If you were happy with the work, I’d really appreciate a Google review. Here’s a direct link, and it only takes a minute.”

That’s it. No pressure, no script, no awkwardness.

Timing matters. Ask when the experience is fresh. Fresh means right after the job is done, while the customer is still happy. Don’t wait a week and follow up out of nowhere.

Ask in person when you can. A personal ask is more likely to convert than an email. If you can hand someone a card with a QR code at the end of a service call, do it.

Why Reviews Matter More Than You Think

Google reviews affect two things directly: where you rank in local search results and whether people click on your listing when they find it.

Review count matters. Review recency matters more. A business with 10 reviews from three years ago ranks lower than one with 10 reviews from the past six months. Google wants to see that your business is active and that customers keep coming back.

Reviews also show up in AI search results. When ChatGPT or Google’s AI recommends a local business, it’s pulling signals from your online presence, including your reviews. A business with consistent, recent reviews is more likely to get cited than one with none.

One More Thing

Respond to every review, whether positive or negative. A business that responds shows Google that its online presence is actively managed. It also shows potential customers that you care.

Keep responses short. Thank people for positive reviews. Address negative ones calmly and professionally. And remember that whether good or bad, a review you responded to is always worth more than one you ignored.
